The Old Jail Farmers Market will kick off its 4th season on June 5th at 4 p.m.! Cantonians can look forward to another summer of fresh, local produce, flowers, honey, and baked goods being available every Thursday in June and July on the grounds of the Old Jail. A selection of local artisans will have their hand-crafted, kitchen, garden and home goods available as well.
In addition to the offerings brought each week by our local vendors, there will be yard games and a sprinkler for the kids, special market nights, and of course, a wonderful opportunity to catch up with neighbors and friends. For those who have the gift of storytelling, there will be markets designated for locals to bring in historical objects to share and talk about with market customers, both young and old. The Young Markers Market will also return this year for not one, but two market dates, so be sure to watch our social media posts for details on how to sign up!
We always need more farmers and backyard gardeners to bring their delicious, home-grown fruits and veggies to sell! Local musicians, choirs, ensembles and such are welcome to come and entertain customers with their tunes, and we’d love to have talented home cooks demonstrate cooking up delectable dishes using farmers market findings.
Anyone interested in providing entertainment, education, volunteering, or selling their home-grown veggies at the market should visit the Old Jail Farmers Market on Facebook or Instagram, or email oldjailfarmersmarket@gmail.com for application details. Vendors pay only $10 to sell for the whole season, so it’s a great way for growers, large and small, young and old, to offer their goods to locals for a very reasonable price.
The Old Jail Farmers Market is hosted by the Canton-Madison County Historical Society on the beautiful grounds of the Old Jail. Please make plans to join us every Thursday in June and July this summer from 4-7 p.m. at 234 East Fulton Street in Canton. We can’t wait to see you there!
